Iwakuni Castle (岩国城) perches atop Mt. The original castle stood for only seven years before the Tokugawa Shogunate ordered its dismantling in 1615 under the 'one castle per province' edict. The current reconstruction (1962) rebuilt the keep using steel-reinforced concrete in traditional style, functioning primarily as observation platform and history museum.
