Harajiri Falls (原尻の滝) is a 120-meter-wide, 20-meter-high waterfall that drops in a perfect curtain across the Ogata River — earning its nickname 'Niagara of Japan.' Unlike most Japanese waterfalls hidden in mountain gorges, Harajiri is located in flat farmland, creating an unexpected visual drama where the river simply vanishes over a cliff edge into a wide basin below.

The falls can be viewed from multiple angles: above from the surrounding farmland, at eye-level from a suspension bridge, and below from the basin floor. The surrounding tufa cliffs (created by volcanic mineral deposits) add geological interest.

Winter sees reduced flow and occasional ice formations on the cliff face. **Walking circuit:** A 2km trail loops the falls basin, crossing the suspension bridge (吊り橋) and descending stairs to the base for spray-zone views. The full circuit takes 45 minutes. The trail can be muddy after rain — wear appropriate footwear. **Tufa cliffs explanation:** The stepped cliff formation is tufa (travertine) — calcium carbonate deposited by mineral-rich water. The geology creates natural terraces and small cave formations visible from the suspension bridge.
