Nankinmachi (南京町) is Kobe's Chinatown, a compact 200-meter square district packed with 100+ Chinese restaurants, street food stalls, and specialty shops. Red lanterns, ornate gates, and bilingual signage create vibrant atmosphere — especially during Lunar New Year when lion dances and fireworks fill the square.

The food focus is Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine: steamed buns (肉まん, nikuman), soup dumplings, mapo tofu, Peking duck, and tapioca desserts. Unlike Yokohama's sprawling Chinatown, Nankinmachi's compact layout allows easy sampling of multiple vendors in a single visit.
