在距博多約20分鐘車程的篠栗杉林深處,南藏院供奉著一尊長41公尺、高11公尺的青銅臥佛——全球同類之中最大的一尊。它的尺度大到讓人失去距離感:沿著小徑走著走著,樹林間突然冒出一隻像廂型車那麼大的佛足。這尊身披紅袈裟、呈涅槃臥姿的大佛,走到空地時從300公尺外就能望見。
主佛之外,南藏院境內還有88尊石佛,排成一圈重現了濃縮版的四國八十八所遍路——走完一圈約需90分鐘,途中會穿過覆滿青苔、儘管緊鄰著現代大佛卻仍顯得古意盎然的森林。
