距太宰府天滿宮的人潮僅一百公尺,穿過一道多數遊客都會錯過的山門,便是光明禪寺——一座擁有兩座庭園、共同濃縮了日式庭園設計哲學的禪寺。第一座是枯山水,以耙紋碎石與稜角分明的石組構成乾景;第二座在拉門之後,是一片綠意深沉靜謐、讓人不自覺放低音量的苔庭。
這片苔庭是15公尺見方的長方形,覆蓋著30種苔蘚——雨後泛著翠綠、午後遲光中轉為金黃的一張活地毯。苔中的石組排列,據說描繪出寺名的漢字。寺院創建於1273年,庭園在1905年最後一次整修後,便任其緩緩地重新老去至今。
