小樽運河是一條1.3公里的水道,兩岸保存著明治時代的石造倉庫,如今改建為餐廳、咖啡館與商店。運河1923年為便利船隻至倉庫的貨物轉運而建,1960年代都市現代化時曾差點被填平。市民抗議保住了運河,倉庫於1980年代修復,成為北海道最上鏡的街景之一。
運河在黃昏最浪漫,散步道旁的63盞瓦斯燈點亮、倒映在靜止的水面上。冬季(12–2月)的雪景尤其夢幻——雪花輕落、燈火橙黃,寂靜中只有踩雪的腳步聲。從淺草橋望向倉庫群,是最經典的明信片畫面。
