**Photography timing:** The pavilion faces west, making sunset the optimal time for photography — golden hour (17:00–18:00 in summer, 16:00–17:00 in winter) creates warm light with long shadows. Shoot from the pond's north or east banks to position the setting sun behind the pavilion for silhouette shots, or from the south for front-lit golden pavilion. Early morning (6:00–8:00) offers mirror-like water reflections before wind disturbs the surface. Weekday mornings have zero crowds — you may have the scene entirely to yourself. **Deer at the pond:** Deer visit the pond to drink, especially at dawn and dusk. Position yourself at the pond's edge with the pavilion in the background to capture deer reflections in water — a quintessentially Nara image. Deer are accustomed to photographers here and largely ignore humans unless you have food. The scene combines all of Nara's elements: historic architecture, sacred deer, and natural beauty. Patience yields better shots — wait for deer to position themselves naturally rather than chasing them. **Seasonal variations:** Cherry blossoms (early April) add pink framing to the pavilion and create double reflections (blossoms + pavilion in water). Autumn foliage (mid-November) turns willows and surrounding trees golden-yellow. Winter (December–February) offers stark, minimalist compositions with bare trees and occasional snow (rare but stunning). Summer (June–August) sees lotus blooms in parts of the pond.
