Jodogahama

The white pebbles are smooth and comfortable to walk on barefoot. The water is cold even in summer (15–20°C) but swimmable July–August. The cove is sheltered and safe for wading. Bring water shoes if you plan to explore tidepools on the rocky sections. The sightseeing boat tour explores nearby sea caves and rock arches, including Hagoromo-no-Iwa and the sea-carved tunnels. Boats operate 9:00–16:00 April–October (weather permitting). Early morning visits (before 9:00) offer the best light for photography — the sun illuminates the white pebbles and creates shadows on the rock formations. Autumn (September–October) has clearer skies and calmer seas than summer. The beach can be crowded on summer weekends; weekdays are quieter. Combine Jodogahama with nearby Kitayamazaki Cliffs (25km north) for a full Sanriku Coast day trip. The tsunami memorial and observation deck north of the beach provide context on 2011 recovery efforts. The white pebbles are protected — do not remove stones as souvenirs. The pine trees growing on the rocks are shaped by constant ocean wind, creating bonsai-like forms.
