Naruto Whirlpools (Awaji side)
Imagen representativa — no es una fotografía de este lugar.
The Naruto Strait between Awaji Island and Shikoku creates the world's largest tidal whirlpools (鳴門の渦潮, Naruto no Uzushio) — underwater vortices up to 20 meters in diameter form when Osaka Bay and the Pacific Ocean exchange water through the narrow channel. The speed differential (up to 20km/h) causes spiral currents visible from observation platforms and tour boats.
The whirlpools appear during peak tidal flow (spring tides, twice monthly) when water volume is highest. Viewing from the Uzushio Cruise boat (渦潮クルーズ) allows close approach — boats navigate to within meters of active vortices, circling as whirlpools churn the sea surface. The Onaruto Bridge's glass-floor walkway (渦の道) provides aerial views 45 meters above the strait.
