**Ashura statue viewing:** The Ashura (阿修羅) statue is the museum's centerpiece — a slender, boyish figure with three faces and six arms, originally painted in red and green pigments (traces remain). The statue was created for a memorial service and depicts Ashura's transformation from demon warrior to protector of Buddha's teachings. The expression combines fierceness and sadness — the sculptor achieved remarkable psychological depth. The statue is displayed in a climate-controlled case with optimal lighting; take time to circle it and observe how the expression shifts from different angles. Photography prohibited but postcards available at museum shop. **Five-story pagoda photography:** The classic shot pairs the pagoda with Sarusawa Pond's reflection — shoot from the pond's northwest corner at dawn (6:00–7:00) when water is stillest and light is soft. Cherry blossoms (early April) or autumn foliage (mid-November) add foreground interest. The pagoda is illuminated until 22:00 year-round, creating night photography opportunities — pair it with Nara Park's deer for unique compositions. The grounds are free access at all hours. **Central Golden Hall (Chukon-do):** Reconstructed in 2018 after a 300-year absence, the Central Golden Hall is the temple's main worship hall housing a large Shaka Nyorai Buddha statue. The building used traditional construction methods (no nails, mortise-and-tenon joinery) and offers a rare chance to see a major temple hall in pristine condition before centuries of weathering. The interior's gold leaf and painted ceiling beams show how temples appeared when first built — a valuable historical perspective. Entry separate from museum (¥500) but worth seeing for architecture enthusiasts.
