Maiko makeover experiences allow participants to undergo full transformation into apprentice geisha: traditional white makeup (白塗り, shironuri), elaborate wig with ornaments (kanzashi), silk kimono with long sleeves (furisode), and obi sash tied in distinctive darari (だらり, hanging style). Professional studios provide makeup application, dressing assistance, and photography sessions in traditional settings.

The transformation takes 60–90 minutes and typically includes outdoor walking photo session through Gion or Higashiyama streets. Higher-end experiences add tea ceremony or private studio sessions with professional photographers.

Eyebrows are drawn in distinctive style, lips painted small and red. Wigs are human hair, heavy (1+ kg), and styled in specific patterns (wareshinobu割れしのぶ for junior maiko). The transformation is remarkably authentic; passersby often photograph you thinking you're real. **Photography rights:** Most packages include 15–30 professional photos (digital + print options). Outdoor sessions attract attention — be comfortable with strangers photographing you on streets (it's expected and tolerated). Some studios offer private rickshaw rides through Gion (¥5,000 additional) for elevated experience and unique photos from rickshaw.
