Kiyomizu-dera est l'un des temples les plus emblématiques de Kyoto. Sa terrasse de bois, construite sans un seul clou, se projette à 13 mètres au-dessus du flanc boisé du mont Otowa. Fondé en 778, il est inscrit au Patrimoine mondial. Les rues d'accès (Ninenzaka et Sannenzaka) regorgent de boutiques de céramique et de confiseries.

Train + Walk: Take Keihan Line to Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, then 20 min uphill walk. Taxi: 15 min from Kyoto Station (¥2,000-2,500) to base of approach.

Opening time (6:00 AM in summer, 6:30 AM in winter) for solitude before tour buses at 8:00 AM. Late afternoon (4:00-6:00 PM) as crowds thin. Night illumination periods offer different experience but crowded.

For minimal crowds, arrive at 6:00 opening (summer) or 6:30 (winter). The first 30 minutes offer solitude before tour buses arrive at 8:00. Afternoon (16:00–closing) is second-best option as crowds thin. Weekday mornings are significantly quieter than weekends. **Otowa Waterfall ritual:** Three streams flow from the waterfall — left (longevity), center (academic success), right (romantic fortune).
