Takeo Shrine 3,000-Year-Old Camphor Tree
Image d'illustration — il ne s'agit pas d'une photo de ce lieu.
Within the grounds of Takeo Jinja, a camphor tree estimated at 3,000 years old stands 30 meters tall with a circumference of 20 meters — a natural monument declared in the same category as Jomon-sugi cedar on Yakushima. The tree predates the shrine by millennia; the shrine was essentially built around it. The interior of the trunk has been hollow for centuries and is accessible through a small low entrance — the hollow space inside is large enough for 6–8 people to stand.
