Momotaro Dori (桃太郎大通り, Momotaro Boulevard) is Okayama City's main shopping and entertainment street, running 1 kilometer south from JR Okayama Station to the historic Omotechodō Arcade. Named after Okayama's legendary folk hero Momotaro (Peach Boy), the wide boulevard is lined with department stores, fashion boutiques, electronics shops, restaurants, and cafes, serving as the city's commercial artery and social gathering place.
Public sculptures and installations celebrate Momotaro throughout the boulevard — including a bronze statue near the station showing Momotaro with his three animal companions (dog, monkey, pheasant) from the folk tale. The boulevard is pedestrian-friendly with wide sidewalks, street trees, and seasonal decorations (illuminations in winter, banners during festivals). Evening brings izakaya and restaurant crowds, transforming the street into Okayama's nightlife hub. Momotaro Dori exemplifies Japanese regional cities' urban vitality — blending modern retail with local identity through architectural and cultural references.
