Arriving at 4:45 places you inside the field near the launch lines — the balloons inflate in the dark and the first one rises at approximately 6:20, creating an extraordinary sequence of lit-from-below envelope patterns against the pre-dawn sky. **Competition viewing:** The competitive events (distance/precision tasks) are less photogenic but fascinating technically — teams tracking wind layers to achieve target distances.
