秋芳洞(秋芳洞)是日本最大的石灰岩洞窟系統,已探勘的通道達10.7公里,其中1公里沿地下河、以鋪面照明步道開放。此洞歷經3億年由雨水溶蝕上方的喀斯特石灰岩台地(秋吉台)而成,形成高達35公尺、如教堂般的空間,傾瀉的流石地形,以及以琥珀色光照亮、高15公尺的巨大石筍「黃金柱」。
穿越秋芳洞的主路線沿秋芳川而行,河水全年恆溫17℃,使洞內夏涼冬暖。地質構造包含邊石池(棚田,如梯田般的礦物水池)、如凍結瀑布般垂懸的鐘乳石,以及狀似層疊餐盤的石灰岩板「百枚皿」。洞的規模令人震撼:入口廳室(青天井)長175公尺、寬80公尺、高35公尺。數世紀前即見於當地傳說,1920年代經科學勘查,1926年開放觀光。
