清水寺（「清水之寺」）是列入世界遺產的寺院，以懸挑於山坡之上13公尺、完全不用釘子、以傳統榫接工法建成的木造舞台（清水舞台）聞名。舞台可眺望京都東側群山，春秋兩季更可俯瞰滿眼的櫻花與楓葉。
寺院始建於西元778年，早於京都成為日本首都之前。寺院山腳的音羽瀑布被視為神聖——遊客可飲三道水流之一，據說分別能保佑長壽、學業有成或姻緣美滿（只能擇一，貪心則反招不祥）。
