櫛田神社藏在博多站商圈的後方,是博多商人文化的精神中心——至少自西元757年起便是這座貿易之城的守護神。神社境內小巧而終日不歇:無論何時,都有送貨員停下腳步鞠躬後才繼續趕路、學生在考前留下供品、長者完成每日巡拜攝社的功課。
本殿供奉著博多祇園山笠的山車——這些曾在城中遊行、如今作為常設展示的巨大祭典結構。最大的飾山笠高15公尺、重達1公噸,表面覆滿數百尊描繪神話場景的小人偶,近看那份工藝令人嘆為觀止。
