先斗町是一條與鴨川平行、長500公尺的窄巷，傳統木造建築內藏逾百家餐廳、居酒屋與酒吧。巷弄窄到（2–3公尺寬）兩人幾乎難以錯身，入夜後燈籠映照木造門面，別有一番親密氛圍。
許多餐廳在夏季設「納涼床」（河畔平台）——延伸至鴨川之上的木造露台，食客一邊用餐一邊俯看河水流過。先斗町的料理從平價串燒到高級懷石都有，河景是共通的主軸。
