竹下通是原宿一條350公尺長的行人步道,兩旁林立販售卡哇伊(可愛)時尚、角色商品、可麗餅與流行文化周邊的店家。這條街是日本年輕人時尚次文化的震央——哥德蘿莉、decora、fairy kei與街頭潮流——霓虹招牌、吉祥物角色與糖果色店面帶來的視覺轟炸,正是原宿極繁美學的縮影。週末的cosplay玩家、街頭表演者與成群青少年,營造出嘉年華般的氛圍。
這條街以WEGO(古著與街頭時尚)、大創(¥100商店)與Marion可麗餅(1976年至今的原宿元祖可麗餅攤)為支柱。可麗餅——薄餅包入鮮奶油、水果、巧克力與冰淇淋、折成甜筒狀——是原宿的招牌小吃。竹下通的感官混亂令人招架不住,卻是最道地的東京年輕文化。
